Welcome to the webpage about my 6-day France Yoga Retreat in January 2025!
In the booklet below, you will learn all about Bordeaux, the wellness and cultural parts of the retreat, practical and logistical details, and a little bonus!
But first, here is the story behind my France retreat.
For more than a decade, I have been teaching yoga on the Bruce Peninsula.
It all began in Owen Sound in 2014, where I established my home studio and collaborated with local yoga studios.
In 2016, I co-led my first retreat in France for two weeks with two groups of 10 people.
After that, my husband and I pursued our dream by relocating to a property near Wiarton, where we inaugurated our studio in 2019.
Observing the consistent flow of students to our new space, their unwavering loyalty, and the growing enthusiasm for what we provide, I felt compelled to extend the experience through a retreat for our community.
Recognizing the ideal opportunity, I decided to designate my favourite city in France as the retreat destination. This choice allows me to align my teaching, my roots, and my eagerness to share something truly special with participants.
Bordeaux holds a special place in my heart, as it’s where I spent all my childhood summers and later lived as a young adult while pursuing my studies in Art History and Archaeology at the university.
I am thrilled to introduce this beautiful city, rich in history, offering culinary delights, and a reflection of my culture.
This retreat promises a distinctive blend of wellness and adventure. Participants will not only immerse themselves in relaxation, stretching, and restoration but also gain insights into the city's culture, history, and culinary offerings.
I can’t wait to welcome you in Bordeaux!
Julie

Temperatures may vary from 5° to 20°, it might be sunny, windy or rainy. There’s definitely no snow or freezing!
Last year, we visited Bordeaux in January and the mimosas were in flowers!
It’s an ideal time for a cultural immersion experience, it is low tourism season. You can enjoy the city to yourself, it’s less crowded, more secure, only locals are around, and life is cheaper then.
The Yoga I offer is gentle and respectful of the practitioner’s needs.
The morning practice’s intentions are soft limbering and awakening of your senses to fully take in all the daily visiting, discovering, tasting and learning you’ll experience of the amazing French culture.
The late afternoon practice is designed to give you an unique opportunity to fully integrate your experiences of the day. Loosing up your muscles, relaxing and preparing to ease into a delightful evening of city night light & life.
The classes are 60-minute long and all the props are provided in the beautiful city centre located studio I will be renting.
You will be most relaxed & limbered tourist in one of most beautiful cities in the world!
There will be plenty of free time beside the morning and late afternoon yoga practices, your one massage on the day of your choice, and one group activity per day (usually around 45-90min).
Bordeaux is like an open book, everywhere you look you see art, culture & history and the blend between contemporary & antique makes the experience fun and interactive.
It’s enjoyable to fill up your free time with strolling cobblestone streets, shopping french fashion boutiques, exploring fresh markets, visiting cathedrals or museums.
It’s simple to move around with your included 7-day transportation pass!
In addition to the short term benefits of the change of scenery, pace, and learning so much about French culture.
There are incredible scientifically proven long term benefits to this retreat.
In addition to life-long memories of experiencing France in such a local and intimate way, practicing mindfulness through the bi-daily yoga classes for 5 consecutive days is going to foster the “Blue Mind/Deep Rest” mode of your nervous system talked about by world renowned psychologist Dr Elissa Epel in her amazing book « The Stress Prescription ».
She ran a study comparing long term benefits of 2 groups of women going on a retreat for a week. One year later, the group that was offered mindful movements during their retreat maintained their lower levels of stress and depression, some of the women had kept up their mindfulness practices which means they kept access to the “Blue Mind/Deep Rest”.
This deep state of restoration is cultivated by changing our environment and practicing deeply relaxing activities like Yoga. It is the most regenerative stage. And it just sounds like what you will be experiencing in my France Yoga Retreat.
The retreat price is all taxes included and covers the 10 yoga classes, the massage, the 5 activities -3 private guided tours, 1 Bordeaux wine masterclass, and 1 group night time dinner cruise, and a 7-day transportation pass.
There are 3 installed payments to support your budgeting.
In France there is no added taxes to prices indicated. Tipping is unusual.
The hotel I recommend in the brochure is very well located, very clean and very secure, in addition it has the best prices due to the low tourism season, the discount applied after booking 3 nights in a row and if you get their free loyalty card you take take an extra 10% off your bill!
As for your meals, Bordeaux overflows with artisanal boulangeries, little cafés & bistrots, daily fresh produce markets, and small grocery stores selling local food, so it’s easy and simple to feed yourself fantastic meals at reasonable prices.
As for the airfare, it is the cheapest season of all to fly, no holidays crowds or overloaded planes.
No. People in Bordeaux are in contact with lots of anglophones through tourism, art & wine business.
Being willing to learn simple conversational words is a plus!
If you are interested into dusting off or learning conversational French, I will be offering group sessions online prior to the retreat.
